Always Looking Up
By Michael J. Fox

Meditations on Optimism from the Inimitable Michael J Fox

There are many words to describe Michael J. Fox: Actor. Husband. Father. Activist. But readers of ALWAYS LOOKING UP (March 31, 2009; Hyperion; $25.99 hardcover) will soon add another to the list: Optimist. In the book, Michael discusses the aspects of his life that have changed with his diagnosis, including work, politics, faith, and family, and writes about the positive perspective that helped him see the challenges in all of these areas as opportunities. Instead of isolating himself during the most difficult parts of his illness, he developed a personal policy of engagement and discovery: an emotional, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual outlook that has served him well throughout his struggle with Parkinson's disease. Michael's exit from a very demanding, very public arena offered him the time - and the inspiration - to open up new doors leading to unexpected places. He is sharing this story on the March 31st episode of Oprah and on an hour-long ABC television special to air May 7th at 10:00 PM.
